BP227: Use the componentWillUnmount method to clean up resources

Use the componentWillUnmount method to clean up resources. In React, components can create and use resources such as event listeners, timers, and network requests. These resources can cause memory leaks and other issues if they are not properly cleaned up when the component is unmounted. The componentWillUnmount method is called just before a component is removed from the DOM, and it provides an opportunity to clean up any resources that the component has created.

For example, suppose you have a component that creates an event listener when it mounts:

import React, { Component } from 'react';

class MyComponent extends Component {
  componentDidMount() {
    window.addEventListener('resize', this.handleResize);
  }

  componentWillUnmount() {
    window.removeEventListener('resize', this.handleResize);
  }

  handleResize() {
    // handle resize event
  }

  render() {
    return (

My Component
); } } export default MyComponent;

In this example, the component creates a window resize event listener when it mounts. The componentWillUnmount method removes the event listener to prevent memory leaks and other issues.

By using the componentWillUnmount method to clean up resources, you can ensure that your components are efficient and free of memory leaks and other issues.
