Answer
When you have many shapes on the Artboard, it is easy to select and modify a wrong shape by mistake. To prevent a shape from being edited, you can select it and Lock it by right-clicking the shape and selecting Lock menu item or by pressing Ctrl + L keyboard shortcut.
You can unlock the shape by repeating the same process (Select, Lock).
